Snow- Round 1

The end of January we got our first 2014 snow in Pinehurst.  Everyone was shocked (all the newbies) but really since we have lived here for almost 8 years we have gotten snow now about 5 years out of that.  We waited for the snow all day on a Tuesday with school already cancelled.  We finally got it that night.  About 4 inches and then school was done for the rest of the week.  On Wednesday morning after breakfast we got geared up and went outside to see this beautiful white stuff that has the capability of making you so giddy, cold and trapped all at the same time.

Testing it out before they had gloves on.  Shocked that is was so cold.  Ummmm, yep, it’s kind of like that.

Easton was exclaiming how cold it was!

Snow Angels are always a must and so pretty.  Of course here you have pine straw mixed in.

Walking through the TALL pines to to get to the sledding hill.  It wasn’t super steep but better than the back yard.  Now the boys are too big for our tiny slanted back yard hill we used when Bradley was two and it snowed.

Since Daddy works from home when he’s not out of town working he didn’t have a course to teach so he got to join in on the snow fun.

030

You can see the path we were aiming for and it worked.  No one was close to hitting a tree.

Gavin- he refuses to even zip his jacket all the way up to cover his chest.  It really was super cold out!

Easton as you can see was wanting to go in so I got a picture right before in anticipation it would be the only time we were all out together.

052

Once we got in we had some yummy rich hot chocolate.  Their cheeks were all chapped and rosy when they came in.

054

We also did something new and made “snow cream” which is snow, milk, vanilla and sugar blended.  It was OK.  I guess the trick is to use sweetened condensed milk instead of regular.  Maybe you would just taste it and see if it needed sugar.  Easton hardly even finishes a dessert so he didn’t this time and Bradley always finishes a dessert but he didn’t.  I let him help me and I think a little too much vanilla was dumped in.

056

Oh and I almost forgot.  We built a pretty pathetic snowman.  Bradley really wasn’t into it so it was just me but the snow was not the snowball fight snowman rolling kind.  I could not get it to stick together for the life of me.  We had to use big chunks that were pushed in from the roads being plowed to start it off.

This was on Thursday, our second day in the snow.

On Friday when Gavin was headed to preschool he insisted on switching his nose to a carrot.  By then everything was starting to melt pretty good.

The boys had a great time experiencing the snow at home together.  It is safe to say that Easton does not like climbing hills or extreme cold and Gavin is really over it all pretty quickly and would rather be cuddled watching a movie.

We survived the 4 inch Snowpocalypse or Snowmageddon as others called it.  We will live to see many more days……

Slow January

This January we got off to a slow start.  The boys were sick here and there and Daddy was very busy at work ( His January was booming and ours was normal crazy I should say) this month so we just hung out and hung in there.
002
As you can see I still haven’t taken the Christmas pajamas away and they asked to all make a tower on Daddy’s shoulders??!! Yes, I really thought Gavin was dying too.  Look at that face.  I snapped a picture really quick and they all fell down. Brad was kneeling on the floor and Easton was pretty close to the top of the wall.

Easton was the first to be sick with his first time getting strep throat.  He is since doing better with not sucking his thumb so much.  I have a feeling the thumb in the mouth is what did him in for getting sick.
009
He got his first lunch box so he can carry one just like his big brothers do.  He always has asked to carry a snack like them even though he doesn’t go to school so now we take this to Drop Zone, MOPS meetings and to the gym.  He loves his “tack box.” He doesn’t say S’s when at the beginning of the word.

The beginning of January, right before it left the theatres I think, we went to see Frozen.  It was fun and I did it on my own taking all three to the movies.  Easton and Gavin did so great.  Shocked me and I was thankful.

All this cold weather and getting minimal time outdoors to play has them acting loco.

New Years Eve and Day

On New Years Eve we went to an 80’s themed party at our friends Gino and Rayma’s house.  I can not say we rang in the New Years there as others did because the kids definitely couldn’t hang that long or me.  I was wearing heels and lets be real, I don’t wear heels too often anymore.  It was funny to see everyone dressed up and even the kids joined in too.  Friends, fun and food is always a great combination to end a year and wish in a new one.

We were home by 10 and Brad and I put the kids to bed and rang in the New Year on the couch with a kiss!

On New Years Day we took the kids to ride their new bikes.  They hadn’t really gotten a chance since Christmas.  Bradley did great on his new bike.  It was a challenge at first but he is riding great now.  Brad and I can ride it and not feel like clowns on a little bike so it is big in proportion to him.  He can do it now and will be able to get years out of the bike, long enough to wear he is doing wheelies and tricks on it according to Brad.

Gavin was riding a scooter so I decided to try again to see if Easton could ride a bike.  I think his legs must have grown just enough now and he did so amazing too! He loved it.  Gavin since has tried Bradley’s old bike with the training wheels back on but I hope to remove them soon.  I think he could do it without help now.

Easton got a spinner seat for his Birthday and Brad had a bright idea to pull it on the bike.  It was so much fun for them until a wheel broke off.  I am thinking it may not have been built for that.  Oops.

You can imagine how fast it was with how fast the boys were running.  Oh and I forgot to mention the new helmets.  Bradley and Gavin both were in need of new bike helmets so Uncle Billy and Aunt Devon got them ones as a practical gift but they are way cooler than just practical!
