Beach 2 Battleship – Full Triathlon

On October 20th Brad competed in his first FULL triathlon.  Here is what he had to do (on paper) to pull this off….

2.4 mile swim

112 mile bike

26.2 mile run

What is not on paper was so much harder that I can’t even begin to fathom what goes through this guys brain.  Anyone out there in fact that gets out and sets their hearts on doing one of these.  As you can clearly hear with my words that this kind of distance or determination is not in my blood.  It is in my husband’s blood for sure! Always has been and I am pretty sure it wont go anywhere either.  He is completely amazing and awesome for finishing this.  Not finishing, naturally, was and is Never an option! I think it is amazing but he thinks it just normal.

Here is our triathlete at 6 something in the morning all dressed in his sexy suit, excuse me, I mean wet suit to board the shuttle to the beach inlet to start his swim. It was a “mass entry” start (unlike the last Ironman he was in that staggered you starting so there would be less people).  He said this was a intense experience and people were knocking elbows and swimming over each other.  The swim was over in less than an hour and it was onto the bike.

I did not get to see him on this portion of the race either.  Really he just wanted me at the foot part of the race.  He was biking on the highways and it was hard for me to know where he would be at any given time.  I took this time to go for a run myself.  I went to the lake that he would be running as part of his route later in the day.  I saw tons of loved ones had posted signs for there triathlete’s.  Brad has learned a lot and I have learned a lot about this sport.  Next time I will have my check list and be prepared.  I also will make some signs even though he was laughing at the idea….I will anyways!

Here he is later that evening…. A FINISHER! This is how he looks right after crossing the finish line. So handsome!

He was anxious to get back to the hotel because he was exhausted. Here is his Finisher Medal.

After that he was DONE.  He got showered up and ate his burger and I opened him a beer but he fell asleep before he even got to celebrate!

Here he is the next morning too….just a quick nap before checking out of our hotel.

We went and ate lunch near the river and then headed home to the boys, Mimi and Nana.
