On Thanksgiving weekend we were all set to head to Maryland and Pennsylvania but our plans changed when Bradley got sick. He came down with Strep Throat the morning we were supposed to leave and we just opted to stay home and not overdue it with all the hustle and bustle with carting the kids from house to house. So, Instead on Wednesday afternoon (the day before the feast) I was THAT procrastinator person out grocery shopping to prepare dinner. Brad and I could not compromise on our dinner favorites so I just made them all. Turkey, stuffing, corn pudding, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes soufflé, gb casserole and rolls. I did however pass on any desserts! It was kind of funny too because the boys were taking naps (all of them) since Bradley was sick we made him nap. I ended up getting the food by 3pm so Brad and I rented a movie and ate by ourselves. Very untraditional Thanksgiving but it was nice and quiet. That night I got the Christmas decorations down and started early because I could.
Wednesday night. I cooked my turkey over night so I could free up oven space and save time.
Here the boys are on Thanksgiving with their under the table hammocks Daddy and I rigged for them. Eventually we had three lined up and they loved them!
Friday morning we went to a tree farm where you can cut your own down. We were trying to start this tradition but when I got there realized out of the 6 types of Christmas tree, neither were the 2 kinds that I like in my home. I guess a Blue Spruce or Frasier Fur do not grow in these sandy parts. I am still on the lookout but I think you have to travel 5 hours up a mountain in NC if I want to start that tradition.
It wasn't a total bust though. It was still fun walking through the trees and they had some cows and wild crazy turkey creatures clucking at the boys. They thought they were funny.
Thursday night silly boys!
Saturday morning Daddy and Bradley went to get our tree from Wal-Mart :) I would love to support the other vendors that set up stands which are from the trees they chop down in the mountains and drive them down here. However, Wal-Mart has the same height and type of tree for half the price. I am about a deal these days! I actually had a lighting fiasco so they hung some on the top with the first strand done but we did not finish the tree until Monday after Bradley got out of school. It only took four days to get this tree complete but who’s counting?! Well, I am!!
My big boy hanging his baby picture, 1st Christmas.
Saturday afternoon Grammy came to stay the night with us. She was at Bubba’s house for Thanksgiving. She watched the boys and Brad and I went on a date. We were joking that we have to spice it up a little. We went to the same restaurant we always do, ordered the same thing and sat in the same booth. We are getting really typical really fast, turning into old timers over here.
A tree in the house is and always been so exciting for them. I caught them eating crackers under it!
Sunday morning before and after church Grammy took a few pictures for our Christmas card. Here are the cute ones that didn’t make it. They actually may be better than the family one but I wanted one of all of us together and not separates.
They opted for different outfits after church. Gavin is one intense little hero!
This is the funny thing….Bradley loves to look at himself in the mirror when he is dressed up.
Super Easty Bubbas! These costumes will never get old for me.
Finally after all that we were able to sit back and admire our tree. We were thankful Daddy was home with us. He left Monday after Thanksgiving for a week work trip.
